Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton by Theophilia

Happy eleventh day of Christmas! I’ve been sick in bed the past few days, so there’s no coherent post today – just some scattered notes.

Today is the memorial of the first native-born citizen of the United States to be canonized: Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.

The first end I propose in our daily work is to do the will of God; secondly, to do it in the manner he wills it; and thirdly, to do it because it is his will.

(St. Elizabeth Ann Seton)

I had planned a lengthy article on her, who took the best instincts of the American mind and perfected them in the teaching of the Church, but I just haven’t had the brain power.

Instead, here is a short video sketch of her life and works.

O God, who crowned with the gift of true faith
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton’s burning zeal to find you,
grant by her intercession and example
that we may always seek you with diligent love
and find you in daily service with sincere faith.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.
