This campaign takes place on the official setting for Hackmaster (4th Edition): Aldrazar, otherwise known as Garweeze Wurld. Use of the Garweeze Wurld Atlas and Gazetteer is allowed to the players, provided one of their characters has plunked down the 25gp to purchase it.

The initial player characters know each other, all having grown up in or near the farming village of Corsham. This thriving hamlet is located near the great city of Arz, one of the Fangaerian City States (FCS).

Languages:

The common language of the Fangaerian City States is Haagen, and all characters will begin with this as their base language, specifically the Arzi dialect. All characters also begin knowing the Forcuran trade language, which is widely used throughout the region.

Other good languages to know include:

  • Abosorian (language of the Kingdom of Abosoria, a realm east of the FCS)
  • Gnardain (Gnomish)
  • Elven (sometimes erroneously called Maur-Haudi)
  • Kuraat (Dwarvish)
  • Meletian (language of the Meletian Kingdom, south of the FCS)
  • Old Forcuran (mostly extinct language of the Raagean Empire)

Religion:

All initial characters must worship one of the Gawds of Twilight Last. Use of Gawds and Demi-Gawds is allowed to all players without restriction.

The following Gawds are popular in the Fangaerian City States, and the players are strongly encouraged to choose one of them. Page numbers refer to G&DG.

  • Benyar (Zelerian Mythos, p. 19): leader of the Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral Gawds of Aldrazar.
  • Shona (Zelerian Mythos, p. 26): Lawful Neutral Gawdess of games and ritual combat.
  • Zelaur (Zelerian Mythos, p. 29): Chaotic Good Gawd of honour, Zelaur’s clerics mostly hail from south of the FCS.

In a pinch, any of the other appropriate Zelerian Gawds may be chosen, pp. 18-29. See the GM if you have questions.

Gawds for Demi-Humans:

Demi-Humans in the FCS may worship any of the Gawds above, or the following:

  • One of the Dwarven Gawds (any of them, if you’re a Dwarf, p. 55+).
  • One of the Elven Gawds (any of them, if you’re an Elf or Half-Elf, p. 67+).
  • One of the Gnomish Gawds (any of them, if you’re a Gnome, Gnomeling, or Gnome Titan, p. 85+).
  • One of the Halfling Gawds (any of them, if you’re a Gnomeling or a Halfling of some sort, p. 96+).
  • Any of the Seelie Court (if you’re a Pixie Fairy, see Adventurer’s Guide to Pixie Fairies).
