Notable Non-Player Characters

Baelonn Dhyrin, Baron of Arz
Human Knight

The party has made an enemy of the Baron of Arz, having foiled his nefarious, if still murky, plan to kidnap and torture young female pilgrims to the Cathedral of the Caregiver in Arz.

Following their battle in the streets of Arz, he has hunted the party, accompanied by a small number of his soldiers and and an Elvish Sword Dancer. Following his cowardly and illegal actions during a duel with Kailan in Fangaerie, the Baron is now an outlaw, and his sword dancer and a number of his men have renounced him.

Last the party saw of him, he was jailed in the town of Agarsta, along with the remainder of his men. Thought to be in league with the Rat King.

Baron of Arz
Belipar
Human portrait and landscape painter

Belipar currently resides in Frandor. His current current major commission is from Lady Reyifor to paint a landscape of the snow-capped Krond Heights come winter.

Belipar’s prominent accent marks him as a Baparan. His mannerisms and etiquette place him somewhere amongst the Middle Class, though his clothing is often unkempt and stained in various colors. He seems to hold himself in a high regard.

Belipar
Greytar the Sage
Human Mage

Greytar is the author of many books on magic and magical creatures, and his fame reaches from one end of the Kingdom to the other, and probably beyond.

Why he chose to live in Frandor, a frontier keep on the edge of the wilderness, is anybody’s guess.

Greytar the Sage
Kailan Morgause “the Butcher”
Half-Elf Fighter

The Kailan of this world is a mercenary. He’s scarred and tough, though he otherwise looks very much like the Kailan of old – though he’s twenty years older.

His family was destroyed and scattered during one of the many gang and house wars that rocked Fangaerie about twenty years ago. Since then, he’s taken contracts from everybody from merchant houses to thieves guilds.

He was a mercenary captain during the Orcish Wars, where he earned a reputation for ruthlessness and cruelty.

Oreamnos Surefoot
? Wandering Merchant

Oreamnos Surefoot is an enigma. Even his species is otherwise unknown. It’s difficult to say which is more notable, his expensive raiment, exceedingly proud demeanor, or elaborate goatee.

He is sworn to his obscure god of trade to travel the world, explore unknown regions, and establish trade missions.

His extensive travels and broad range of skills make him a knowledgeable resource and excellent traveling partner, but his lecturing tone can be wearing, and many (including the Dumbarton Oaks Experience) have parted ways over his insistence on investigating every trade opportunity.

Phineas Amedee
Human Scholar

Phineas comes from the wealthy House Amedee in the royal capital of Kisar.

When he refused to become an officer in the Royal Narcerian Army, his family disowned him. Phineas ran away from home and eventually got a job in the great library of Fangaerie. During his many years there (rising from book sorter to Assistant Librarian), he acquired a vast store of knowledge.

One day, he joined an expedition party to Frandor’s Keep in search of an obscure artifact of ancient power. Phineas’ companions met an untimely end and poor Phineas got himself trapped in the Halls of the Red Wolf. Phineas is deathly afraid of rats, and the place was crawling with them.

The Dumbarton Oaks Experience rescued him, and he gratefully offered to aid them in any research they might need.

He was last seen boarding a coach for Fangaerie.

Phineas
The Rat King
Were-Rat

The Dumbarton Oaks Experience initially ran into the Rat King in the underground complex known as the Lair of the Red Wolf.

While they defeated his vast horde of rats (and his Were-Ratling lieutenants), the Rat King himself escaped.

Since then, the party has gathered evidence of a magical rat communication network, centered of the person the Rat King. To what end? None know.

Verity
Human (possibly Half-Elven) Fighter (?)

Verity is the leader of an adventuring group known as the Shield Vert. The party met her and her group briefly in Sabden.

Rail-thin with raven hair, she is seemingly made of nothing but hard angles. She very much gave the impression of having instantly formulated a plan to kill every person in the room.

Verity
Wilamar Jannek, Fourth Earl of Reyifor
Human Knight

Kind, but fierce. Former patron of the Dumbarton Oaks Experience, the Earl is still friendly with the group. The group rescued his secret, illegitimate daughter Alimira from kidnappers. She is now an apprentice magic user.

In his youth, the Earl of Reyifor contracted a political marriage with the wealthy merchant House Trober of Fangaerie. Thirty years later, the Earl and the frivolous Countess Inala are barely on speaking terms. One legitimate daughter, Sarila, is the spitting image of her mother. The two aristocrats spend most of their time in Fangaerie, with occasional shopping trips to Kisar.

The Earl splits his time amongst his estates, including Frandor, and in the Ducal court at Fangaerie.
