Are You Experienced?

by Trorelian Glaive

What will it be like to become a card-carrying member of the Dumbarton Oaks Experience? After posing this question to the group on our latest adventure (collecting rat tails for cash in sewers, meeting the inhabitants of the Hall of Hobos, and losing Rue to an unexpected centipede attack), I find myself wondering if the group will vote me in, and if so, what this will mean for me and Selden (aka, my oaf).

I think after Selden’s valiant role as a human shield on our last adventure, the group will most likely vote him in as a member – even if it is just out of pity. The poor thing literally didn’t know what hit him. But me? I try to keep up with the group, and keep my wits about me, but this is a whole new world from where I was. Growing up as the child of scullery servants doesn’t exactly prepare you for magical quests, pixie fairies, and the like… Although, I may be one of the few that doesn’t have an overwhelming urge to take a bite out of Kailin – freshly baked bread is nice and all, but that smell takes me back to my childhood in the kitchens (not to a currently empty stomach).

With the death of Rue (RIP, sista!), I think the group may have need of my skills – especially since they have lost their other sneaky female. I still cannot believe that the new(er) guy with the strange accent was already voted into the group officially, and I haven’t been. I barely got a free room and a meal after helping to get Doreen, Fenke, and Torhala out of jail (with Kailin’s help, of course….). That new guy could be trouble… I’ve heard even his own family can’t stand him! There must be a reason for that, and I am sure it’s worth investigating. If he poses a danger to the group and I let them know, I will become a full-fledged member for sure!

Well, “slainte” to the memory of Rue, and cheers to my upcoming group membership!
